Saanich Tigers graduate Geoff Ward was drafted 12th overall in the B.C. Junior Lacrosse League entry draft.

The Nanaimo Timbermen junior lacrosse team strayed from their catchment area to draft five Saanich Tigers at this year’s  B.C. Junior Lacrosse League entry draft on Jan. 7.

Six Saanich players were selected in total. The draft was for 2000-born players graduating midget lacrosse. The first five Saanich players went to Nanaimo, starting with Geoff Ward and Mason McAdams in the second round, 12th and 13th overall respectively. Next was Ari Stevens in the third round at 17th overall, Graeme Getty (37th), and Hank Wulder (39th).

The Victoria Shamrocks took Owen Works from the Saanich Tigers in the sixth and final round at 43rd overall.

For the Tigers, it’s a total of nine players sent to Nanaimo in back-to-back drafts as the junior Timbermen selected Joe Jackson, Zack Dhillon, Landon Underwood and Will Johansen last year. The foursome played Intermediate A this year and will be eligible to join the Timbermen in 2018.

Saanich is out of catchment for the BCJLL entry draft. The Shamrocks have priority draft for the Juan de Fuca catchment area.
