After years of injury problems Saanich’s Michael Saunders has found success in the big leagues with the Toronto Blue Jays.

Saunders is one of five finalists vying for the final American League all-star spot, a fan-based voting contest that ends Friday at 1 p.m.

As of Wednesday, Saunders was carrying a .293 batting average and an on-base-percentage of .367, with 84 hits and 15 home runs in 77 games.

The former Victoria Mariners player and Lambrick Park secondary graduate is on pace to play his first full season of Major League Baseball.
