Keith Hamilton really wishes he could wash the Royals' recent record down the drain.

The Tri-City Americans showed what makes a first-place team, outscoring the Victoria Royals by two goals to none in the third period, going on to win 5-3 at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre on Wednesday night.

It’s the Royals’ third loss in a row, part of a mid-season collapse that’s seen the Royals somehow hold onto seventh place, the second-to-last playoff spot in the WHL’s Western conference.

Logan Nelson scored his 13th, Kevin Sundher his 19th and Zane Jones his seventh of the season in the loss.

It was also Jones’ third straight game with a goal.

That’s good news.

Bad news is that the Royals, with 157 goals against, have now given up 35 more goals than the worst team in the WHL, the Everett Silvertips.

It’s by far the most goals against. In fact, it’s 22 goals more than the next team in that category, which is the Lethbridge Hurricanes with 135.

Luckily for the Royals, the 'Canes visit Friday night, 7:05 p.m. to Memorial Centre.

It's the last home date of 2011 as the Royals play the remaining six games on the road.
