Duncan Brens-Knight pitched a complete game and surrended just a single earned run as the Victoria Mariners won the first half of their twin bill with the White Rock Tritons 6-3 in British Columbia Premier Baseball League (BCPBL) action Sunday afternoon at Layritz Park.

The Mariners, however, dropped their second game as the Tritons won 4-3 on the strength of a four-run fifth inning.

The Mariners jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings before allowing the Tritons back in the game with two runs in the top of the third inning. However, Victoria restored its two-run lead in the bottom of the inning. The teams traded a run each in fifth and sixth inning for the final score. (Games in the BCPBL last seven innings).

The Mariners also seemed to be in charge of the second half of the double-header, putting up three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. However, the Tritons roared back in top of the fifth inning with four runs.

Jacob Potter took the loss, surrendering four earned runs on five hits.

Sunday’s action left the Mariners with a record of 11 wins and five losses, which they will look to defend on Tuesday evening when they travel to Lambrick Park to face the Victoria Eagles, with a record of 5-15. First pitch is scheduled for 6:15 p.m.
