Gardeners to gather in Esquimalt for club event

Japanese gardens cash to be presented to township next week

Bring your green thumb to the Esquimalt Garden Club's inaugural open house next week.

The club, celebrating 60 years in existence, lists about 40 members from throughout the Capital Region, though newcomers are welcome.

The open house is set for Thursday, April 5 at 7 p.m. in the lower lounge of the Esquimalt United Church, 500 Admirals Rd. On the agenda is a special presentation of $1,000 from the club to township representatives to pay for more plants in the Japanese garden in Esquimalt Gorge Park.

Club members meet the first Thursday of every month at 7 p.m. at the church, where they share growing tips, listen to guest presentations and plan garden tours. Annual membership cost is $10 per person or $15 per couple.

For details, please call club president Paul Wickens at 250-385-6049 or email paulwickens@shaw.ca.
