Black Press and Staples, in partnership with Camosun College, are proud to recognize some of the great teachers found here in the Capital Region. We asked our readers to nominate teachers who have gone above and beyond to make a difference in the lives of the students they teach.

Jody Onuma is a teacher at Campus View elementary. Here’s what nominator Carrie Cameron had to say about her:

Ms. Jody Onuma is the music teacher at Campus View. She works tirelessly to ensure all students in Kindergarten to Grade 5 are immersed in a wide variety of music education, from recorder to ukelele, to hand chimes to xylophones. Ms. Onuma inspires her student to engage with the with the school community through music. When Ms. Onuma’s choir performs you are able to witness the pure joy in the students. The dedication is apparent in the quality of the choir and the students admiration and respect for Ms. Onuma is undeniable. Ms. Onuma is an outstanding example of why music education is such a critical element of our public education system. All who have experienced Ms. Onuma’s music program are in constant awe and gratitude to the time and effort she puts into her teaching and every one of her students. She is the true definition of an outstanding educator.

Look for our Great Teachers special section running June 21 which will recognize the three teachers selected as this year’s representatives as well as list all of the Saanich nominees.
