The Sooke Children’s Garden Club is preparing for its 15th season, welcoming children aged three and above to cultivate their love for gardening.

Held from April to October at the Sunriver Community Garden, the club’s monthly gatherings offer a free and enriching learning experience for youngsters.

Through diverse activities, the sessions aim to foster a passion for gardening, environmental stewardship, and community engagement.

Each meeting features 10-minute small group workshops covering topics like planting vegetables and flowers, seasonal growing, invasive species, and healthy cooking. The sessions culminate in crafting fall fair-worthy creations, adding a creative element to the young gardeners’ skill set.

A unique aspect of the Sooke Children’s Garden Club is its emphasis on community involvement. Children are encouraged to volunteer at various events and participate in the Sooke Fall Fair.

The club’s success is attributed to the support of local organizations such as the Sooke Rotary, Sooke Harbourside Lions, Sooke Lions, and Sooke Lioness clubs.

Sign up for the 2024 season at Sooke’s Seedy Saturday on March 30 at the Sooke Community Hall, or get registration forms at Artisan Gardens or Serious Coffee. For more information, contact Anne Boquist by email at aboquist@shaw.ca.
