Do you have a passion for people and a drive to make a difference in your community?
Your best career move may be right around the corner.
The Garth Homer Society provides day and residential programs for adults with developmental disabilities in Greater Victoria.
Based at the Garth Homer Centre, a busy community hub near the Saanich municipal hall, program participants enjoy a wide range of community- and centre-based activities. Daily activities are based on their individual interests, explains Phemie Guttin, Executive Director, Service Operations. The Society maintains a large fleet to ensure participants can get to all their many community-based activities.
Garth Homer also runs an exceptional geriatrics program for older individuals, and a very successful life skills initiative for younger adults. “Skills development helps people become employable, if that’s their goal, but there’s also continuing education that’s not curriculum based that our clients really enjoy,” Phemie says. “We create a lot of inspiration and opportunities for people to fulfill their goals.”
In its residential program, the Society supports a variety of individuals, including those with complex medical support needs.
“Our clients display an astounding range of capabilities,” notes Phemie, “The team works every day to help them be everything that they can be, to the very best of their abilities, and in the unique and often wonderful ways that are best suited to them.”
