Saanich police are investigating the deaths of two people found inside a vehicle Thursday morning (Feb. 10), in the parking lot of the former Mount Tolmie Hospital building at Cedar Hill Cross and Richmond roads.

The bodies were discovered at approximately 9 a.m. While the deaths did not initially appear to be suspicious, said Saanich police Const. Markus Anastasiades, an investigation is ongoing and the B.C. Coroners Service will conduct its own inquiry.

A visit to the site early Thursday afternoon found no police tape or any other immediate signs of police activity. Several people were gathered outside the building at the time.

The former long-term care hospital has been serving as housing for people experiencing homelessness since June 2021, primarily for those relocated from the temporary shelter at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.
