Apartment fire sends one to hospital

Fire crews responded to the Mount Tolmie Ridge Apartments, in the 1900-block of Mayfair Dr.

An apartment fire Monday evening in Saanich sent one person to hospital.

Fire crews responded to the Mount Tolmie Ridge Apartments, in the 1900-block of Mayfair Dr., at 7:15 p.m. Smoke was seen coming from a second-floor unit.

Firefighters used two ladder trucks to gain access to the apartment via the balcony. The flames were extinguished, and fire damage was contained to the kitchen and bathroom of the suite.

One person inside the unit at the time of the fire was taken to hospital with minor burns and smoke inhalation.

Damage to the apartment and its contents is valued at $100,000.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
