Child struck by vehicle in Saanich, taken to hospital

Police are investigating this as a hit and run on Glanford Avenue

A young child has been rushed to hospital after being struck by a vehicle early Monday morning in Greater Victoria.

The six-year-old girl was crossing Glanford Avenue at Kenneth Street in a marked crosswalk with an older sibling when she was hit by a vehicle that left the scene heading northbound on Glanford.

The girl’s injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Saanich police confirm they are in the early stages of a hit and run investigation. Glanford Avenue was closed to traffic in both directions at Kenneth Street to Agnes Street for about an hour starting just after 7:30 a.m., and has now been reopened.

Police are looking for a vehicle described as “boxy”, possibly a late 80’s or early 90’s model white Honda with a silver bumper.

They believe the vehicle would have damage to its passenger side mirror, and are asking the public with any information to contact them.
