Cougar spotted near Queen Alexandra Hospital

Saanich Police unable to locate cougar after sighting Monday night on Arbutus Road

Saanich Police responded to a report of a cougar sighting on the grounds of the Queen Alexandra Hospital Monday night.

A patrol unit was dispatched at about 9 p.m. to the hospital on the 2400 block of Arbutus Road but was unable to locate the animal. The B.C. Conervation Officer Service was advised of the reported sighing.

Area residents and parents of children attending school or other programs in the area are advised to be aware of the reported sighting and take necessary precautions.

In the event of encountering a cougar, people are advised to remain calm and keep the cougar in view. Pick up any children immediately and back away slowly, ensuring that the animal has a clear avenue of escape.
