Curbside leaf collection begins Monday

Municipal crews will do two passes through each of Saanich’s urban neighbourhoods between Oct. 31 and Dec. 16

Saanich’s curbside leaf collection program gets underway Monday, offering residents an opportunity to get rid of autumn’s brightly coloured discards at no extra cost.

Municipal crews will do two passes through each of Saanich’s urban neighbourhoods between Oct. 31 and Dec. 16, picking up piles of leaves, and only leaves, left at the edge of your property. Branches, needles, storm debris or garden waste will not be picked up.

Leaves must be raked into piles and left no more than one metre from the road. Piles must be located with unobstructed, safe access for the crew’s large equipment.

Leaves also can’t block ditches, catch basins, sidewalks, bike lanes or roadways.

To find out when the collection program will be in your neighbourhood, visit saanich.ca/services/garbage/leaf.html.

Branches and storm debris, as well as leaves, can also be dropped off free of charge at 1040 McKenzie Ave., between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday.
