A woman was taken to hospital Wednesday after being bitten on the arm by a pit bull.
The woman was walking on Humboldt Street when she approached a man and his pit bull, said Victoria police Deputy Chief John Ducker. The man warned her the dog was not friendly.
Despite the woman’s efforts to move out of the way, the dog bit her. Police and an ambulance arrived on scene, as well as animal control, but the man had left with the dog.
The animal control officer later located the dog and its owner, who told police he had just taken over ownership of the pit bull a few days before.
He was aware the dog needed to be muzzled when in public, but had not muzzled it during this walk, Ducker said.
The pit bull was seized by animal control and the incident is under investigation.
