UPDATE: Pedestrian struck in Saanich dies at the scene

Traffic affected for several hours Tuesday afternoon near Uptown mall

A pedestrian struck near Uptown mall Tuesday afternoon died at the scene.

Saanich police were called to the scene of a “serious traffic incident” in the 3400-block of Douglas Street at approximately 3:50 p.m. A pedestrian had been hit and was declared dead at the scene.

Traffic was affected for several hours while police assessed the scene.

Earlier Tuesday, a different pedestrian was struck by a double-decker bus on Douglas Street near Burnside Road East. They were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

More details on the fatal pedestrian collision are expected Wednesday.
