Teen mugged, beaten Sunday night

A 17-year-old male with headphones on was jumped, beaten and robbed Sunday night while walking home in Saanich.

A 17-year-old male with headphones on was jumped, beaten and robbed Sunday night while walking home in Saanich.

The victim was walking in the 3900-block of Holland Ave. around 10:45 p.m. when three unknown males knocked him to the ground, punched and kicked him and stole his cellphone, iPod and monthly bus pass before fleeing.

One of the suspects is described as a 19- or 20-year-old male with brown hair. He was wearing a black hoodie, jeans, and a red baseball cap with a white DC logo on the front.

"It's not advisable to walk around with headphones in. We do need to be aware of our surroundings, we do need to hear things that could harm us from behind – and that could be a vehicle, cyclists or other people on foot," said Sgt. Steve Eassie. "If you're wearing headphones, that's also a clue to other parties that you have a (portable electronic) device on you."

The victim sustained only minor injuries.

Police are asking with information on this incident to call 250-475-4321.
