Four airmen were finally laid to rest on Monday, November 10, 2014 – 72 years after they and their aircraft disappeared after leaving Victoria, B.C on a World War II training mission in 1942.
The plane – an Avro Anson – was discovered in October, 2013 near Port Renfrew, B.C., on the west coast of Vancouver Island.
The four men – Calgary-born Sgt. William Baird and Englishmen Pilot Officer Charles George Fox, Pilot Officer Antony William Lawrence, and Sgt. Robert Ernest Luckock – have been added to the National War Memorial in Ottawa, listed as missing.
