Woman arrested for robberies of young girls, students

Robberies occurred near Hillside Centre, Mayfair Mall last month

An 18-year-old woman is facing charges for robberies that took place near Mayfair and Hillside malls last month.

In the first incident Nov. 14, two 11-year-old girls were approached by a man and woman and robbed of their cellphones and backpacks while walking home near Hillside Centre.

A similar robbery occurred Nov. 26, when two female students were approached by a woman outside Mayfair Mall and threatened at knifepoint.

Teagyne McFarlane of no fixed address is facing four counts of robbery, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public and possession of stolen property.

A 19-year-old Sidney man was arrested in connection with the first robbery and will appear Jan. 19 on one count of robbery.

VicPD investigators sifted through numerous tips and evidence to make the arrests, said Det. Joan Elliot in a statement.
