May 2, 1952 - December 24, 2018
Will be deeply missed by his daughter Alicia of Castlegar B.C, granddaughter Adora Eve, son Morgan of Lake Simco, Ont., brothers Phillip of Kilifi, Kenya and David of Brantford, Ont. Richard will also be remembered by his cousins, aunts and uncles and his many friends in Canada and around the world.

Richard lived his early years in Toronto the son of Morris and Eva Zigler. He enrolled in the B.S. Program at State University College in Buffalo and graduated 1972, He received his post graduate diploma at the University of Saskatchewan in Learning & Behavior Disorders in 1974. In 1988 he received his Doctorate in Education from The University of Minnesota, and a Doctorate of Philosophy from Federal University, Novosibirsk, Siberia in Inclusive Education in 2002. He was the director of student support services in Salmon Arm from 1989-2009, and touched many lives. Richard taught in many places that most couldn't find on a map. He was driven by educational inequities. He wanted to create an environment where no student or child would be deprived of a solid education regardless of race, colour, family status, ability to pay and physical or mental disability. He settled in Kilifi Kenya at Pwani University. He lectured, tutored, and created programs to help educate graduate and post graduate students.

A special thanks to all of those close friends who have helped in this transition and with the memorial in Salmon Arm. Richard was one who never boasted about himself, a bulldog that always fought for what he believed was right and never quit or excepted mediocrity as the norm. He will be sorely missed.

There will be a memorial held on Feb. 23, 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm at South Canoe School, 5970 10 Ave SE, Salmon Arm. All are invited, bring finger food and a story or photos to share. Donations are invited to cover funerary costs (e-transfers to richardziglermemorialfund@gmail.com) and any excess will be donated to the cerebral palsy foundation center that Richard deeply cared for in Mombasa, Kenya.
