I have a few comments regarding the establishment of the park at Haro Woods:
As far back as 1961, Saanich council designated this area as greenspace. It was intended not to be disturbed by housing, biking, sewage treatment, etc.
Also ‘greenspace’ did not mean development for recreational facilities. The park has been zoned by Saanich as P4 ‘natural’ area. It saw almost 5,000 hours of volunteer effort to remove invasive plants and restore the ‘natural’ environment. Two petitions in 2008 and 2010, showed overwhelming support for ‘natural greenspace’.
It would be very unfortunate for this unique natural ‘greenspace’ to be compromised.
