My name is Brae Carnes, a Transgender rights activist and advocate. I personally think that removing gender entirely from birth certificates would hurt society more than it would help. We as transgender people need to understand that we are a minority, and our comfort is not more important than the positive effects of gender on I.D.
I do believe changing your gender marker should be easier, free, and have more options than just male or female. Removing gender completely would hurt medical research, statistics, and the criminal justice systems, outweighing the benefits to transgender and intersexed people.
I changed my gender marker to female with no problem. Remove the cost and I think everything is fine.
