Emma Andrist has a good topic in the Student Voice column in the July 20 issue of Saanich News, but her article contains some confusion.
She does not explain why counselling on the site of the tent city is not “plausible”.
An encampment with fire risk and violence cannot be something to realistically be in favour of.
Indeed other people claim correlation between encampments and problems, in contrast to individuals by themselves or with a partner. I suggest the reason includes bad influences that weak-thinking people are susceptible to – like teenagers are accused of.
It’s been known for a long time that the problem is thinking skills. Educator Geoff Johnson says that a high proportion of homeless and addicts did not do well in school. We also know that B.C.’s public schools don’t teach good values – failure to stop bullying is evidence of that.
