Promises not to be believed

We are about to be overwhelmed by all sorts of promises from every single provincial political party between now and May 9

We are about to be overwhelmed by all sorts of promises from every single provincial political party between now and May 9.

So it is time to put on our thinking caps about politicians and what they say during campaigns.

Here’s a quote from a very successful politician from 150 years ago: “People never lie so much as after a hunt, during a war or before an election.” Otto von Bismarck, the 19th-century German chancellor.

It was true then and it is true now.  Only in 2017, unlike 1867, we will be inundated on TV, radio and the internet.

Our prime minister has shown how a campaign promise that was made into a Throne Speech promise of electoral reform can be easily thrown aside.

So do not be fooled by anything they say because it may or may not come true once they are elected.

Be sure to vote when the day arrives but also be sure to be skeptical of what you’ve been promised. Forewarned is forearmed.
