B.C. Premier Baseball League championships at Victoria's Royal Athletic Park this weekend

Baseball fans will want to head to Royal Athletic Park this weekend for the B.C. Premier Baseball League championships. Hosted by the Victoria Premier Eagles, in conjunction with the Victoria Habourcats at Sports Traders Diamond, the event welcomes the top four PBL teams in the province. Games begin July 31 and continue through to Aug. 2. Admission to the weekend tournament is $2/student per game and $5/adult per game or $20/weekend pass or $40/family pass. As this year’s Carnarvon-based Bantam Black Eagles – B.C. champions – get ready for nationals in Vaughan, Ont., planning is underway for next year’s Bantam AAA squads. Registration is underway for the Eagles’ Bantam Tier 1 and Tier 2 teams, with tryouts for manager Bob Mabee’s Tier 1 Eagles Aug. 3 to 7. Following the Tier 1 tryouts, the Bantam Red Eagles Tier 2 tryouts are scheduled Aug. 8 to 13. For more information about this year’s tryouts, visit victoriaeagles.com.

Also coming up this week is the 2015 U14 Girls’ Canadian Fast Pitch Jamboree Aug. 5 to 9. Hosted by the regional Victoria Devils 2001 and 2002 teams, games will be played at View Royal’s Helmcken-Centennial Park and Saanich’s Hyacinth Park.

In the pool, the PCS Midsummer Swim Meet takes place from July 31 to Aug. 2 at Saanich Commonwealth Place. The three-day tournament will see swimmers from many different skill levels and age groups competing for their place on the podium. Later in August, Victoria plays host to the BCSSA provincial championship, Aug. 17 to 23.

In local cricket action, Oak Bay visits Cowichan, hitting the Shawnigan Lake pitch Sunday, Aug. 2 at 12:30 p.m.

Soccer fans can catch the action during the sixth annual adult co-ed Saanich Fusion Turf Burn soccer tournament, coming to the Juan de Fuca Sports Fields Aug. 7 to 9. For more information, see saanichfusionfc.ca/turf-burn/.

Looking forward to fall, registration is underway for the Victoria Football League, with practices set to begin Aug. 11. For more information, including information about player draw areas/boundaries for individual teams, visit www.victoriafootball.ca.

The Sailors Field Hockey Club is hosting drop in sessions all summer long. Anyone 14 years of age or older is welcome to come try out field hockey with some of Victoria’s best coaches and players. Drop ins cost $5 per session for an hour and a half of skills and drills.
