Grizzlies roar back to force do-or-die Game 5

Grizz smash Powell River Kings 5-1 in Game 4 to extend BCHL best-of-five series to one-game final

The Victoria Grizzlies avoided elimination on Tuesday night winning Game 4 of their B.C. Hockey League opening-round playoff series against the Powell River Kings 5-1.

It evened the best-of-five series at two wins each.

A do-or-die Game 5 is tonight (March 20) at Bear Mountain Arena, 7 p.m.

Pearce Eviston scored the only goal in the first period and Leo Fitzgerald scored the only goal in the second period to give the Grizzlies a commanding lead going into the third period on Tuesday.

Then came three more goals from the Grizz as David Mazurek scored, Fitzgerald scored his second, and Nolan de Jong scored to make it 5-0.

Powell River’s Jordan Burns broke the shutout late in the game, as Grizz goalie Brady Rouleau stopped 11 of the measly 12 shots he faced.

The Grizzlies managed 25 shots. Kings starter Jonah Imoo was pulled after he let in 12 of 16. Backup Braeden Ostepchuk stopped eight of nine.

The Grizzlies won Game 1, 5-2 at home on Friday, dropped Game 2, 3-1 at home on Saturday, and lost Game 3, 3-0 in Powell River on Sunday.

Elsewhere the Nanaimo Clippers and Alberni Bulldogs will also settle their series, tied 2-2, tonight in Nanaimo.

Same goes for the Prince George Spruce Kings and Chilliwack Chiefs, who settle their best-of-five in Chilliwack tonight.

The Surrey Eagles eliminated the Langley Rivermen 3-1 in their best-of-five. In the interior, where the opening round series are a best-of-seven, the Penticton Vees swept the Salmon Arm SilverBacks 4-0 and the West Kelowna Warriors lead the Merritt Centennials 3-1, with Game 5 on Thursday, and if necessary, Game 6 and 7 on Friday and Saturday.
