Royals host Blazers for Games 3 and 4 at Bear Mountain Arena

The Ford World Men’s Curling Championship, March 30 to April 7, has bumped the Victoria Royals to Bear Mountain Arena for first round of the the WHL playoffs.

The sixth-place Royals face the third-place Kamloops Blazers in the Round 1 meet up of B.C. Division teams.

Games 1 and 2 are at Kamloops, Friday (March 21) and Saturday. Games 3 and 4 are Tuesday and Thursday at Bear Mountain, 7 p.m.

If necessary, Game 5 is in Kamloops on March 30, Game 6 is April 1 in Victoria, 7 p.m., and Game 7 back in Kamloops on April 3.

Pacific Athletics host open track session for youth

Pacific Athletics is inviting youths 10 to 14 years old to partake in two open training sessions on the track at UVic’s Centennial Stadium.

The track sessions are free with no obligation, Sunday March 24 and March 31, 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

All levels are welcome. The goal is to promote participation and teach proper techniques on the track.

Falcon gymnasts win medals, Lion’s Pride qualify for Westerns

Members of Falcon Gymnastics won medals in five events at the Christy Fraser Memorial Invitational in Langley, March 8 to 10.

Emma Longbottom (Tyro P2) led the team with her second consecutive all-around gold. Emily Hale (Novice P3) won all-around silver. Sasha Barnes (Tyro P2) and Emily Vowles (Novice P2) won all-around bronze.

Individually, Longbottom and Hale also won gold on the bars and Kianna McLaughlin won gold on the vault.

Barnes won two individual silvers, on vault and bars. Vowles won  bronze on the beam and bars. Sara Keating (Novice P4) earned silver on the vault and bronze on the bars. Novice provincial tier two competitors Kianna Phieffer won silver on the beam and Emily Schmidt won silver on the vault.

Across town, Lion’s Pride gymnasts Brianne Kerr and Maya Rahn recently qualified for the 2013 Western Canadian Gymnastics Championships, May 2 to 4 in Winnipeg.

NCAA coach to host basketball clinic at Pacific Christian

Develop your basketball skills with an NCAA basketball coach at Pacific Christian School  this spring.

The two-day camp, May 25 and 26, will be led by coach Dustin Kerns of Santa Clara University, the alma mater of Steve Nash.

The camp is open to boys and girls aged nine to 16 years old. A coaching clinic will run both mornings, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., followed by a players camp from 1 to 4 p.m.
