Rebels blanked in junior football semifinal

Running back Greg Morris was neutralized as the Langley Rams defeated the Westshore Rebels 33-0 in the B.C. Football Conference semifinal

The league’s top running back Greg Morris was neutralized by the Langley Rams on Saturday as the Rams defeated the Westshore Rebels 33-0 in the B.C. Football Conference semifinal match.

The game ended with a shouting match between the two coaches no doubt due to the Rebels’ frustrations over the loss.

The Rams stifled the Rebels and outplayed them in most areas of the game, an unfortunate ending to a strong season for the Rebels.

Morris, who ended the season as the league’s top rusher, was held to 28 yards on 14 carries.

Kicker Quinn Van Gylswyk tried three times to put the Rebels on the board, though always from great distance, 57, 43 and 48 yards. Rams special teams player Kick Downey caught all three missed kicks, and ran one of them back for a 120 yard touchdown. Rams kicker Nick Taylor hit three field goals, his longest just 22 yards.

In the other semifinal the Vancouver Island Raiders beat the Okanagan Sun 34-8, setting up a rematch of last year’s Cullen Cup, BCFC final between the Rams and Raiders, Oct. 27 in Nanaimo. The Raiders won that game 44-0.
