It was a big weekend in Kamloops as the UVic Vikes women's basketball team took two games and moved into the Canada West playoff picture.
The Vikes men's and women's basketball teams are away this weekend at UBC-Okanagan Heat, Jan. 13 and 14.
The Vikes women are 6-4 after they swept the Thompson Rivers Wolfpack last weekend, 79-66 on Friday and 80-70 on Saturday.
"[Saturday] was a good game both ways, it came down to a couple of possessions," said Vikes head coach Dani Sinclair. "That was the difference in the game, timely shots both ways and we were lucky enough to have things go our way at the end."
The Vikes are now tied for eight place in the Canada West conference.
"I think we need to keep building, it is always tough to come into someone else's gym and try and beat them twice," said Sinclair. "We knew it would be tough and it is important for us to build on this weekend."
The Vikes men are now 3-7 after they split a pair of games with the Thompson Rivers WolfPack, winning 86-76 on Friday but losing 78-71 on Saturday.
"The first quarter we didn't show up and respond," said Vikes head coach Craig Beaucamp. "The guys showed some resiliency but we didn't deserve to win the game, we have to be better early on."
Grant Sitton had a big 30-point performance on Friday and then chipped in with 12 points and six rebounds on Saturday.
"We got a win so we will take that with us," said Beaucamp. "This conference is very close and we have to take each game one at a time."
