UPDATE: Potential child luring incident in Saanich’s Cordova Bay area a misunderstanding, police say

10-year-old child was approached by a man in his 50s or 60s

Saanich police have concluded that a child luring incident in the Cordova Bay area near Claremont Secondary School was a misunderstanding.

The man, identified by officers on Nov. 17, was completely cooperative during the investigation. There are no safety risks to the public stemming from this particular incident, police say.

However, Saanich police continue to remind children and families about what to do in the event of an encounter with a stranger.

If someone approaches to ask for assistance or presents an offering, refuse, walk away, find a safe place and call police or a trusted adult.

On Nov. 15, officers had responded shortly before 3:30 p.m. to investigate a report that a 10-year-old had been approached by a man in his 50s or 60s.
