If the latest polls are to be believed, the move is on target with a majority of Canadians. A survey conducted by Research Co. from Sept. 2 to 5 found that 79 per cent of British Columbians support a handgun ban in their municipality, and 86 per cent support a ban on military-style assault weapons.

The statue of Canada’s first prime minister, John A. Macdonald, was removed from outside Victoria City Hall on the weekend. Victoria Mayor Lisa Helps said Macdonald’s role in the creation of residential schools was a painful reminder for the city’s Indigenous population. POLL: Should Saanich ease restrictions to allow more secondary suites?

Saanich currently permits secondary suites in most but not all urban areas of the municipality subject to a dozen conditions as described on Saanich’s website. But the actual number of legal suites (a few hundred) appear to be far below the potential suites (some 9,000). Do you think Saanich should do more to accommodate secondary suites in the district?
