The recent killing of two young people and wounding of 13 others in a Toronto neighbourhood was the latest example of gun violence in this country.

The District of Saanich filed an injunction this week in B.C. Supreme Court calling for the homeless camp residents in Regina Park to vacate the area. Do you support Saanich’s decision? Should they have taken action sooner against the tent city that has been in the park for more than two months? Or should they have waited until another solution could be found? Recent statistics show the number of crashes involving cyclists are on the rise in Saanich. ICBC stats show that Saanich was the site of 74 crashes involving cyclists last year, up from 68 in 2016 and above the five-year-average of 69. But the number of injured cyclists in 2017 — 44 — was actually below the five-year-average of 58, with zero fatalities.

With Victoria’s ban on single-use plastic bags now in effect, Saanich council is considering enacting a similar ban here. Do you think the time has come to shelve the use of plastic bags. Let us know what you think.
